Professor Joseph Wing-On Tam, Chairman of Pangenia Group, delivered a speech in the “Business of IP Asia Forum”

The 7th “Business of IP Asia Forum” jointly organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Design Centre was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, the theme of the BIP Asia Forum is “Intellectual property and Innovation: Promoting Innovation, Growth, and Linkage”. Over 80 prominent guests were invited as speakers, and more than 2,500 industry elites have come to join this magnificent event.

Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Deputy Director of the State Intellectual Property Office, He Hua, was invited to attend the opening ceremony. Meanwhile, Professor Wing-On Tam, Founder and Chairman of the Pangenia Group, was invited to the forum to give a speech on the topic of “Linking intellectual property to innovation and business: US market experience sharing”.

In the future, not only will the intellectual property trade bring commercial returns and drive economic growth, it would also promote creative development, strengthening linkages between various economies.

In the speech, Professor Wing-On Tam addressed the linkage between innovation, intellectual property and values, as well as the way to achieve business goals through intellectual property utilization and to maintain an increase of product value. Further discussing how a business could be taken to the next level by means of proper intellectual property application. Professor Tam also reached out and shared his knowledge with professionals in intellectual property and guests from around the world after his speech.

As a co-founder of the Hong Kong Biochemistry Association, Professor Tam is engaged as an authoritative expert in biochemistry and molecular biology for over 30 years in both Hong Kong and US. He once introduced the most advanced rDNA technology and at the time, trained multiple Asian scientists through the “The First International rDNA Technology Training Course” in 1983. In addition, Professor Tam believes that the government’s promotion of life sciences and intellectual property is crucial. His laboratory team has successfully replicated the genes of globulin, G6PD and insulin receptors of the local DNA database section. At the same time, they further identified point mutation and regulatory factor sites that can potentially cause genetic diseases. These mutations constitute an inevitable part of the DNA diagnosis of the genetic disease today. Professor Tan is the inventor of more than 10 international patents; his invention of “Flow Through Hybridization” was adopted by numerous European and Chinese companies, including Diagcor Bioscience Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Pangenia Group.
